How to Change the Fuel Filter on a Toro Zero Turn

With professional performance and unmatched durability, Toro zero turn riders provide you with the ultimate mowing experience. However, if you do not change the fuel filter in your machine regularly you can say goodbye to a beautiful, professional-looking lawn.

Before performing any maintenance on your Toro zero turn rider, refer to your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance and safety information. Maintenance instructions vary by model, so depending on the model of your zero turn, our instructions may vary slightly. Check your owner’s manual to get instructions specific to your model.

Park your mower on a flat, level surface. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool. Remove the ignition key and disconnect the spark plug ignition wire to prevent accidental starting. Engage the parking brake.

What you’ll need:

  • Replacement fuel filter
  • Pliers
  • Fuel line pliers
  • Rags

First, stuff a couple of rags underneath the fuel filter to catch any excess fuel that will come out. Use a pair of fuel line pliers to block out the full fuel from the tank to stop the flow of fuel, then use a pair of regular pliers to take off the two clamps that hold down the fuel filter to the fuel line.

Once you get the fuel filters off, it’s a little tricky to get the filter off the line so twist and pull and do the same thing on the other side. Properly dispose of the old fuel filter.

Put the new fuel filter on. You will notice that there is an arrow that says flow on the side of the filter. The arrow should point towards the engine.

Reinstall the new fuel filter, make sure that line fits all the way up against the filter on both sides and reinstall the clamps.

Release the fuel line pliers, remove the rags, and test for operation.
