The Right Amount of Water For Your Lawn

Q: How do I know how much water my lawn is getting?

A: Set an empty soup can in the middle of the watering area. After 15 minutes, measure how much water is in the can. This is a good estimate of how much water your lawn is getting. A good average is an inch of water a week…more when hot or windy, less when cool. Stop as soon as the water reaches the roots. Anything more just becomes runoff, wasting money and time.
